Central Broward East-West Transit Study
Following previous years of study, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization adopted the locally preferred alternative (LPA) below in October 2012. The LPA provides transit service from the western portions of Broward County, the Sawgrass Mills area, to Downtown Fort Lauderdale via a mixture of highway, arterial and local roadways. The LPA is included in the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) as an Illustrative Project. Upon completion of the environmental phase, the project will be included in the Cost Feasible plan.
Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) selected in October 2012.
The adopted modern streetcar portion of the LPA will be implemented in three phases. CBT Phase 1, which is currently under project development, provides service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Broward County Convention Center/Port Everglades. The future phases, which are pending demand as well as operating and maintenance funding, included in the LPA are as follows:
- Phase 2 – Modern Streetcar extension west from the Wave to the Fort Lauderdale-Tri Rail Station on Broward Boulevard; and
- Phase 3 – Modern Streetcar extension west from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to the South Florida Education Center
